Application process: To apply, you will need to submit an online application via our scholarships portal.

Phase 1: Fill out the online application form with the following:

  • Your passport or proof of permanent residence
  • The names and email addresses for two referees (one academic or work related, and one vouching for your personal attributes – please note this must not be a family member)
  • Three short statements - these are used to identify how likely you are to benefit personally from the Prime Minister's Scholarship programme, to generate benefits for your community, iwi or hapū, education institution or workplace, and for New Zealand more broadly
  • A two-minute video about why you would make a great Prime Minister’s Scholar and what it would mean to you to receive the scholarship.

Phase 2:  All shortlisted applicants will be invited to answer more detailed questions about your proposed programme. You will have two weeks to submit your answers online.

Step 4. Selection and offers

You will be notified of the outcome of the selection process via email within eight weeks of the application deadline. Successful applicants will be sent an offer of scholarship via email.

If you are not successful, you will receive some general feedback and have the opportunity to attend workshops so that you can refine your application and give it another go.

Step 5. Provide confirmation of programme acceptance

You will be asked to upload confirmation of your acceptance into your proposed Programme and upload your bank details into the online scholarship system.

Step 6. Pre-departure sessions

Successful applicants will be invited to attend pre-departure sessions to prepare you for your time abroad, and will include cultural competency training to get the most out of your time abroad.

During your scholarship, and on your return, there will be a range of further opportunities to engage with your fellow awardees and to join the Prime Minister's Scholarship alumni community to continue to build on connections, knowledge, and create impact together.
